I have a Sony Plasma PFM500A2WU. It won't hold a signal or stay on. The picture will come up for a few seconds then shut down. Code 99 appears on left side panel. It would do this sometimes in the past but then work OK for a few days. This seems to occurs with signals from the cable box or the dvd player. The unit is about 8yrs old.

The tv won't it's signal through the cable signal or the dvd player. It lights up for a few seconds and then go off. It leaves a 99 code. It will keep comming on for a second or two then go back off. I concerned if it is a major problem or not. The Plasma in it's day was a lot of money I hate to replace it if I don't have to.

There is no way to tell for sure what is wrong with the TV but from what you have told me I do not believe it is a serious problem. This model TV is known for having cold solder connections and problems with the power supply. I would guess the repair would be less than $350. A small repair shop will normally charge less than a large repair facility.

Ed, based on your info I will take it in for repair. I do want to explain that the red light blinks when the signal is lost but dosn't go out. I would assume that would indicate I still have power entering to that location. I take it you mean power is lost the rest of it's way. When the signal is lost the fan also goes out so I tend to agree with you. Please reply and I will accept your answer and reply. Thank you.

Ed, I accepted your answer and send off a reply but I'm sure you haven't got
it yet since it's so early. I had taken your advice and will take it in for
repair. Your thoughts on the power connections make cense since it losses its
fan running when it goes into standby. The red light on the front panel
always stays on or is blinking. I take it you meant the power going forward to
other circuits in the TV right and not just main power going to it?.
